Ajrakh Printed Waistcoats – The Chic Layering Trend Every Woman Loves

There’s a popular story among local practitioners, that ‘Aj-rakh’ refers to the message ‘keep it today’, reflecting the need to put the fabric to rest after each day of the 16-step creative process of washing, dyeing, printing and drying.

In 2023, the artisans of ‘Kutch Ajrakh Print of Gujarat‘ received the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) certificate from the Government of India, ensuring legal protection for the traditional craft of the region and maintaining its cultural heritage and authenticity. Today, Ajrakh prints are found in silk, cotton and other fabric blends and in a wide range of garments like kurtas, sarees, tops and even jumpsuits. Even celebs have fallen under the spell of this unique print. Take a cue from Alia Bhatt’s Ajrakh saree with a modern twist that she wore to the Joy Awards 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Or the stunning royal blue Ajrakh saree donned by Rashmika Mandanna for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s Shubh Aashirwad ceremony at the Jio World Centre recently. Inspired by their looks, you can discover your own way to gracefully wear this versatile print.
